CHAPTER 02 / 33

Choose robot families and ESP32 variants

Browse 16 prepared robot assemblies and understand their simulation coverage.

Reusable module cards with component counts and connection notes beside the 3D assembly.
Modules package selected parts and their internal wires. Inspect their connection notes before integrating them with the rest of your robot. View full size ↗

The highlighted Start with an empty workbench button is at the top of the template chooser. All 16 presets include executable demo code. Select a preset and press Run simulation; Pause stops it and Reset restores the design pose.

  1. Export your current project before switching designs. Open New project or the chooser beside the project name.
  2. Filter by Emoji companions, Mobile robots, Robot arms, Walking robots, Vacuum cleaners, or Research & tools. Search by robot name, board or application.
  3. Expand Simulation coverage before choosing a variant. Drive simulation means the supported differential-drive model; Expression demo exercises displays and the servo-horn preview; Kinematic demo moves supported servo descendants while collision shapes and inertia remain at their reference poses.
  4. Choose Use preset. The project includes its components, starter circuit, controller code and useful groups. Undo returns to the previous project during this session.
  5. The emoji family offers ESP32 DevKit, compact ESP32-C3 and camera-oriented ESP32-S3 variants, plus the original companion. These run the virtual JavaScript API, not Arduino or ESP-IDF firmware.

To recover example code in an existing preset project, open Code and choose Load preset demo. It replaces the controller source and enables the joint preview for matching servo IDs, preserving assembly transforms and wiring. Undo restores previous code. New presets use separate virtual SERVO_1 through SERVO_8 channels; older or edited circuits may need PWM wires corrected. Deleted, replaced, unpowered or disconnected servos cannot be assumed to move.
